However, he has not had a good start to this year. First, he was excluded from the Australian Open. Then he was defeated by Nadal in Paris. And finally, just recently, he has been overtaken by Medvedev and Zverev in the ATP ranking. Still, the Serb is the favorite number one since, firstly, he has long demonstrated his mastery on a grass court; secondly, his main rival, Medvedev, won’t participate in the competition this time. 

The young Carlos Alcaraz is the sensation of this tennis season. Although it is difficult to predict how his play is going to unfold on such a surface, expectations about him have not stopped growing. According to the specialists, his aggressive style seems like it could fit perfectly on the grass, which favors fast play or drop shots. The Murcian still has a certain ‘wow’ factor. Everyone talks about him, but not many players have faced him.

It is worth noting that in addition to the three major favorites mentioned above (Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Nadal), the analysts also include such players as Félix Auger, Matteo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Denis Shapovalov, Nick Kyrgios, and Hubert Hurkacz in the list of contenders for the title. 

Women’s Singles

Unlike the men’s draw, the women’s competition has no clear favorite like Djokovic. It’s where yesterday’s juniors, whom we’ve never heard of before, may break through at any time. With five different champions in the last five editions (Williams, Muguruza, Kerber, Halep, and Barty), the WTA circuit is inconsistent. One thing is for sure – the tension among the women will be at the maximum! 

Polish Iga Świątek seems to be the most qualified to win this season. The world number one recently won Roland Garros with her 35th consecutive victory in the finals. At this tournament, her chances of taking the trophy are almost twice lower than in Paris, though. The thing is, she has not won a single competition on grass and has never progressed beyond 16th place in London. It’s Emma Raducanu that may prevent her from winning. The British player is still stirring the tennis world after winning the US Open, and Wimbledon will be her home tournament. The problem is that Emma was recently injured and did not even finish her match in Nottingham against Viktorija Golubic. 

Wimbledon betting odds also speak in favor of Simona Halep. The Romanian player won Wimbledon in 2018, defeating Serena Williams in the final. She is in good shape – shortly before the new tournament, she reached the semifinals in Birmingham. 

The Roland Garros runner-up, Cori Gauff, having reached the semifinals in Berlin, performs strongly on the grass. So she can be considered a worthy contender for the Wimbledon title. It’s hard to count legendary Serena Williams out. Although the 40-year-old athlete has not played for a year, she has the experience and the class to edge multiple opponents. 

Among other strong performers worthy of attention are two-time champ Petra Kvitová, Garbiñe Muguruza, who gained the title in 2017, and Paula Badosa, who reached number two in the WTA ranking in April 2022. Tunisian Ons Jabeur can be added to this list as well. She has been demonstrating outstanding results on different surfaces this season. 

As usual, the women’s circuit is always more open, and anything can happen. You shouldn’t discount the possibility that lower-ranked athletes could win the championship. It is Wimbledon that is famous for its interesting turn of events. And the return of such a legend as Serena Williams will add even more intrigue.
