One of the greatest annual tennis events, the Australian Open 2021, has come to its end. For more than two weeks, the event had been bringing us a lot of thrilling competitions between top tennis players in Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The championship took place in Melbourne, at Melbourne Park, on February 8-21. Last weekend featured the final games, so it is time to sum up the results!

Women’s Singles

A third-ranked tennis player from Japan, Naomi Osaka, became a two-time AO champion. In the final of the Australian Open 2021, she defeated American Jennifer Brady in two sets with 6:4, 6:3 scores. The game lasted 1 hour and 17 minutes. By the way, it was not their first encounter. The opponents met less than a year ago at the US Open, where Naomi smashed Brady in the semifinals and attained the title. Therefore, at AO 2021, the Japanese seemed even more favored and gave the American player no chance. On the way toward victory, Naomi brilliantly defeated legendary Serena Williams and Garbine Muguruza.

Our congrats! Now Naomi has 4 Grand Slam victories behind her! In the updated ranking, she has moved one position up, replacing Simona Halep! The Japanese tennis player took home A$2,750,000.

Mixed Doubles

In the Mixed Doubles final, the Czech-American duo Barbora Krejčíková & Rajeev Ram snatched a 6:1, 6:4 victory from Australian tandem pair Samantha Stosur & Matthew Ebden. The match lasted 59 minutes.

Few doubted that they would win. And it is no wonder – this is their second title together, the first one was in 2019. Rajeev won the Australian Open for the second time in his career, while Barbora did it for the third time. The duo gained A$150,000.

Men’s Singles

In Men’s Singles, Novak Djokovic once again brilliantly confirmed his champion title. He easily beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, ranked 4th in the world, and got his 9th AO title! The champion managed to snatch a 7:5, 6:2, 6:2 victory with little effort in less than two hours. As usual, Novak Djokovic demonstrated strong performance, worthy of the first racket of the world and first place in the ATP ranking! The victor gained A$2,750,000 and 2,000 ATP championship points, and currently, he is only 2 Grand Slams away from such record-holders as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal!

Men’s Doubles

Surprisingly enough, Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and Slovakia’s Filip Polášek managed to gain a 6:3 6:4 victory over the last year champions, Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, and get their first Men’s Doubles title together! For Filip, it became the first Grand Slam title, and for Ivan – the second one! The champions got A$600,000.

Women’s Doubles

As you remember, earlier, the No 3 seeded Belgian-Belarusian duo, Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka, gained AO 2021 title in Women’s Doubles and took home A$600,000.
