Cyber.Bet Cup Day 3 Recap: Heretics Maintain Their Status, SMASH Falls Short With Last Minute Stand-In

The third day of Cyber.bet Cup meant a whole new group of teams, Group B. Four rosters had a chance to test themselves in the opening bo3’s. Today’s victors where Nordavind and Syman Gaming, bringing top-tier plays to the table with clean wins.

Game 1: Nordavind vs Heretics (0-2)

What better way to start than with the classic Dust 2. Like we mentioned in the preview article, this is a map Heretics found a lot of success on recently. They managed to beat high-calibre opponents, the likes of OG and Heroic on it. Initially, it was Nordavind who picked up the 2-0 CT side start; however, their reign didn’t last long. Once the gun rounds commenced Heretics looked incredibly strong. They failed on the 8th round losing to just pistols, but given the bigger picture, it was a petty mistake. They ended the half with a 12-3 score, and Nordavind didn’t win a single gun round. Jesper “tenzki” Plougmann & co tried to win one round after another, but it was too late. The French won the first map with a whopping 16-4 result.

Next on the list was Inferno. In their previous encounter, Nordavind managed to win this map against Heretics. This time around, the story was different. Heretics successfully started their run on Inferno, but after a successful 1 vs 3 attempt, Jørgen “cromen” Robertsen managed to break the CT economy. This propelled Nordavind to a 5-4 scoreline. This all came to an end on the 10th round with a push on B Bombsite, as they were shut-down by the pistols of Heretics. With this momentum boost, they managed to win the first half 10-5. However, even after winning the pistol and subsequent rounds, Heretics quickly bounced back. The saving grace was an eco victory where Niels Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen managed to clutch for the team. Four extra rounds went in their favour, but Heretics managed to pull through in the end with a 16-13 victory.

Game 2: Syman Gaming vs SMASH (2-0)

As we headed into the first map of the bo3, disaster struck in the SMASH camp. Sebastian “NEEX” Trela had to be replaced for a stand-in Aleksandar “jayzaR” Žarković. Even though they had to change their 5th, SMASH looked very solid on Train. Their CT side seemed unstoppable. Round after round Syman Gaming would fail to penetrate the defensive. Thanks to this strong early game, SMASH massed an 8-1 lead. Unfortunately, this success didn’t last long. Syman Gaming finally managed to win crucial duals on their side and ran away with 6 more rounds in their pocket. The streak continued even on the CT side. Rustem “mou” Telepov managed to find AWP kills and this favoured Syman. They acquired 9 more round and closed the first map.

The second map, Inferno, wasn’t as straight forward as Train. This was a more back-and-forth map between the squads. After an exchange of force, Syman began to distance themselves from SMASH. But even the T side SMASH found luck and won 2 gun rounds of their own, breaking Syman’s economy. This opportunity should’ve allowed SMASH to continue their streak, but instead, they lost to the pistols of Syman. After this failure to capitalize on the economic downfall, Syman managed to win the half 9-6. Now with the sides being switched, the pressure was all on SMASH. They couldn’t win the initial pistol round, but managed to win the first gun round. However, they didn’t string rounds together, and Syman reached 15 rounds in total. Even though this looked like the end for SMASH, they went on to win 4 more rounds on the CT side. But the game came crashing down as they lost another eco round to Syman, thus ending the bo3.
