ESL One: Road to Rio begins!

ESL One: Road to Rio begins!

Good news for all CS:GO betting lovers and all others Counter-Strike fans! On April 22 the biggest online CS events starts. ESL One: Road to Rio is the first of three events to determine 24 teams, which will get their tickets to the only one Major tournament of 2020. ESL hold the event in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) this November. The tournament was rescheduled from April as well as any other big LAN event was denied due to coronavirus outbreak.

Considering all circumstances, Valve decided to develop brand new Major qualifiers system as the old one could not work due to more than one year gap between those tournaments as Starladder Berlin Major was held in August-September 2019.

Now teams will gain their RMR (Regional Major Rankings) points to get to Rio. The teams from Berlin Major acquired from 300 to 800 points depending on their placement. At ESL One: Road to Rio teams can get from 100 to 1600 points. The amount of points will be increased with each next RMR tournaments. There will be three RMR events, including ESL One: Road to Rio but the format of the next two tournament is still unannounced. It is still unknown is there any chance to hold LAN events in case of quarantine relaxation while ESL One: Road to Rio is confirmed to be fully online.

Speaking about new RMR system, it considered the results of Starladder Berlin Major in terms of spots distribution to every region. Europe was the most representative region in Berlin and got 10 slots with 3 of them directly to top-16. North America got 6 teams with half of them to top 16 stage, while CIS got 5 teams overall and 2 of them in the New Legends stage.

The other teams from those regions will be accompanied by three more teams on the New Challenger stage. They will be determined by RMR tournaments in Asia, South America and Asia respectively. It is worth mentioning that before previous Majors Americas were playing at one Minor and the same was for Asia and Oceania. This time, those regions are separated due to online format and possible ping issues. In the same time, Brazilian teams MIBR and Furia, which live and practice in North America as well as Australians from 100Thieves are going to play in NA region.
