For four weeks, the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship has been bringing us a lot of thrilling and unforgettable moments, and now, finally, we know the name of the newly-crowned champion – Italy! It wasn’t a blowout win at all, with the final fight against their worthy adversary – England.
The English started confidently, scoring a record-quick goal in the second minute. It was Luke Shaw who first put England ahead. The future winners managed to equalize only in the 67th minute when Leonardo Bonucci scored after a corner kick. The situation was heating up – two overtime periods did not determine the winner. Only in the penalty shootout, the Italians turned out to be stronger (3:2). The decisive attempt of English winger Bukayo Saka failed – his blow was deflected by Italy’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been eventually recognized as the best player at Euro 2020.
Thus, an unfortunate miss of the English sent the Euro 2020 trophy to Rome. The disappointment of the English is enormous – for the first time in history, the team was one step away from victory in the final of the European Championship. Neither the walls of their home Wembley Stadium and fans’ support, nor good wishes of Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Boris Johnson helped them.

Italy won the European Championship for the second time in history – since their previous victory, 53 years have passed – the first title was won in 1968. So, we are very excited to congratulate the Italian team on such a great triumph!
