LEC 2020 Spring regular season recap

LCS Spring Split 2020 looks like a tournament of one team. In Europe G2 lost 3 out of 15 games but in America Cloud9 smashed every opponent and won 17 out of 18 maps. The only one team managed to take a game from leader was Team SoloMid. This victory helped TSM to avoid four team tiebreakers for two spots in lower bracket semifinals.

Cloud9 is a vice-champion of LCS Summer 2019 and they also took 9-12 place at Worlds 2019. During off-season team has made significant changes. Only two players from 2019 Summer roster have stayed in the team. Top laner Licorice and mid laner Nisqy have kept their positions. Ex-TSM ADC Zven, ex-CG support Volcan and jungler Blaber from Cloud9 Academy completed this dream-team. It is worth mentioning that legendary ADC Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi has left the team after six consecutive seasons in Cloud9. He still works in Cloud9 as a staff member.

At once three teams have ended a split with 10:8 score line. Therefore, Evil Geniuses, 100 Thieves and FlyQuest played tiebreakers for the second place. As a results of those matches, EG took second place, 100T became third and FlyQuest stayed fourth. Nevertheless, Cloud9 have chosen 100Thieves as their semifinal opponents.

Another three teams tiebreaker was played for the last lower bracket play-off spot. Clutch Gaming won it and left Immortals and Dignitas off the rest of season. Team Liquid took the 9th place with 7:11 score line and Counter Logic Gaming was the worst team of this split with only three wins.

Speaking about individual awards, the most “Player of the Game” awards were claimed by EG mid laner Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro. He made it six times, while three Cloud9 players Zven, Nisqy, Blaber and PowerOfEvil from FlyQuest were awarded 5 times.

LCS Spring 2020 play-off starts on April 4, 23 CEST when EG face FlyQuest. On April 5, 23 CEST Cloud9 play against 100Thieves and on April 7. All matches are played online due to coronavirus pandemic.
