CS:GO franchising league Flashpoint Season 1 has come to its end. MAD Lions became the champions as they beat MIBR 2:1 in the grand final.
According to initial plans, Flashpoint regular season should have been played on studio in Los Angeles with finals in Stockholm with life audience. However, the league moved entirely to the studio and later migrated online due to coronavirus outbreak.
One of the main episode of the season was situation with Heroic. European organization was going to sell Danish roster to FunPlus Phoenix from China. The team even started to play at Flashpoint under the new name, but then something unexpected happened. Astralis decided to for six-man roster and chose Patrick “es3tag” Hansen as their sixth player. Heroic have not signed their contracts with FunPlus Phoenix yet and it was announced that es3tag joins Astralis on June 1 after his current contract expires. FPX decided to deny the whole deal, Heroic roster was disqualified from the tournament and American team Bad News Bears played under FunPlus Phoenix tag in the league. Following the results of regular season, MAD Lions, MIBR, HAVU and Cloud9 finished in top four. In play-off the same four teams were fighting for the win. Cloud9 secured the upper hand against underdogs but lost to MAD Lions and HAVU. Finnish team in its turn lost to both grand finalists.
Both matches between MAD Lions and MIBR in play-off were very intensive. In the upper bracket final, MIBR won 2:1 as they swept their opponent on deciding map Dust2 16:5. In the grand final, MAD Lions decided to ban Dust2 and Train was the decider. Danish team was down 3:12 after their T-side but they managed to come back in defense and won the map 16:13 as well as champions title and $500 000 prize money.
