NAVI, BIG, Complexity — best teams according to BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2021

The last matchday of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2021 came to an end. And we are here to announce BIG’s, Complexity Gaming’s and Natus Vincere’s triumphs, and other results!

The participants were split into three groups. In Group A, the results turned out to be a bit surprising. It was BIG that distinguished themselves in the competition. Johannes Wodarz’s squad started the tournament with a victory over OG, but in the next game against NiP, they hit a losing streak and sank to the Lower Bracket. Hardly anyone would have presumed that BIG and Astralis would encounter in the final of the Lower Bracket. BIG got a close win in this matchup. And further, NiP were waiting for the Germans again. This time, however, the scenario was just the opposite of their first meeting. The squad of Johannes Wodarz proved that they didn’t give up so easily and defeated the Swedes 2:0! Before the start of the tournament, everyone was almost sure that Astralis would advance and the NiP would drop down: the Danish team is one of the best in the world, while the Swedes have recently made a replacement and have not lately delighted their fans with victories. But as a result, the world’s top CS:GO squad, Astralis, got the last chance to win back at the Spring Showdown, while NiP, having gained $12,500 and 1200 BLAST Premier points, made it into the Spring Finals! As to the group winner, BIG takes fourth place in the world ranking; despite some difficulties, these guys put in a strong performance, and their victory in the group proved to be well-earned.

In Group B, early in the game, Complexity Gaming and Evil Geniuses were considered to be outsiders, but eventually, these very teams made it to the Grand Final! Complexity Gaming continued the victorious march in the Grand Final as well, beating the opponent 2:0. It is worth noting that the European team did not lose a single map in the competition!

The competition in Group C was not without surprises too. Although NAVI was one of the tournament favorites here, on their way to victory, Aleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev and his teammates surprisingly faced losses on two maps in the matches against MIBR and FaZe. The future winners quickly learned a lesson from their mistakes, and in the Grand Final, having beaten FaZe, they have made it clear that they were serious contenders for the title of the best team in the world! FaZe, in their turn, exceeded all expectations — they appeared to be stronger than the estimated favorite No. 2 — Team Liquid. Having defeated it two times, Finn Andersen’s squad made it to the Grand Final and got a slot for Spring Finals!

Group winners gained $25,000, 1600 BLAST Premier points, and Spring Finals slots with top seeds. The runner-ups of each group got $12,500, 1200 BLAST Premier points, and Spring Finals slots. The rest contestants will continue to fight at Spring Showdown for the last two Spring Finals slots.

BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2021 will take place online on April 13-18, with six teams from the BLAST Premier Spring Groups (Astralis, OG, MIBR, G2, Team Liquid, Vitality), two unannounced teams invited directly, and eight teams from the qualifiers (four from Europe, four from America).

Once BLAST Premier Spring Groups ended, HLTV.org updated its ranking of the best CS:GO teams. The results of the past competition have brought its influence here. NAVI moved up to the top position, outranked Astralis with a lead of four points. Complexity and Evil Geniuses moved up to the Top-10, taking positions No. 8 and No. 9 respectively.
