The regular matches of the 75th season of the NBA started last week. The first week of the tournament has already brought us some bright but tense moments. Thus, the first matches started with Brooklyn’s and Clippers’ victories. ‘Nets’ triumphed over Golden State with a 125:99 score, while the Los Angeles derby ended in Clippers’ win over the current champion, Lakers, with a 116:109 score. Lakers, however, later pulled themselves up and crushed Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Although it seemed that, having beaten Denver Nuggets, Clippers intended to keep right on, the situation changed. On Sunday, The away team, Dallas Mavericks, smashed them with a 124:73 score. Brooklyn Nets, in their turn, lost to Charlotte Hornets with a 104:106 score on December 28.
As to other noteworthy matches, Philadelphia gained a victory over Washington with a 113:107 score. Williamson’s ‘double-double’ did not save New Orleans, and they lost to Miami with a 98:111 score. Adetokunbo led Milwaukee to victory over Golden State but did not protect against New York Knicks, which beat them 130:110. Houston lost to Portland with a 126:128 score.
All the results of the first match week are as follows.
Anyway, Los Angeles Lakers remain the tournament favorite despite their loss on the first day of the competition. But “LAL” should keep in mind that there are lots of worthy adversaries in the tournament, such as Brooklyn, Clippers, Boston, Philadelphia, etc. Will the current champions manage to replicate their success? Time will show…
Let’s recall, the tournament started on December 22. The regular-season will be shortened, and it won’t include the so-called All-Star game.
Thus, the regular season will include only 72 games (instead of 82), after which the teams ranked 7th through 10th in each conference will take part in the play-in. The 7th and 8th teams will play for the seventh seed. The 9th ranked team will play against the 10th ranked team. The loser of this match will be eliminated, while the winner will compete with the loser of the 7th-8th match for the eighth seed, with the defeated team being eliminated. The regular season will last till May 16, with a short break in March (March 5-10). Then, the play-in stage will follow, which is slated for 18-21 May. The play-off will take place from May 22 till July 22.
