We are excited to announce that the NHL has determined the starting date of their 104th season. Although the plans changed several times, finally, the organizers have slated the kickoff for January 13. What’s more, due to restrictions, there are some changes in the format and course of the competition. And we are here to bring you up to speed!

Thus, the matches of the regular season will take place from January 13 to May 8. The number of games to be played during this stage will be reduced to 56. Additionally, the league will be split into divisions based on the territory. That is, the clubs will compete against each other within the following divisions: North, West, Central, and East.

In total, 868 games are planned to be held throughout the whole season. In the East, Central, and West divisions, clubs will play with each other 8 times. And in the North division, the squads will compete against each other 9 or 10 times. The four strongest clubs from each division will advance to the playoffs scheduled for July 2021. The first 2 rounds of the playoffs will run within the divisions again. The first round will feature the first-place team vs. the fourth-place team and the second-place team vs. the third-place team matches. The second round will be the contests between the winners of the first round. Then, the four best teams will encounter in the semi-finals.
