League of Legends developer and publisher Riot Games cancelled annual international tournament Mid-Season Invitational. The event was always held in the middle of the season and gathered spring split champions of primary and wild card regions.
MSI 2020 was scheduled on May but later transferred to July due to coronavirus outbreak in China and Korea. As the time passed, and the virus spread all over the world and Riot decided to cancel the event.
Nevertheless, League of Legends developers believe that there will be no obstacles to run World Championship 2020. The event will be held in China with the grand final at Shanghai Stadium with the capacity up to 80 viewers. The dates and venues of other stages are still unannounced.
Riot Games also changed the number of world championship participants. Additional spots will be provided to China and Europe. These two regions are the strongest in the world right now. Chinese teams won previous two World Championships by beating European teams in the finals, while G2 became MSI 2019 winner.
