UEFA Nations League: Matchdays 3 & 4

UEFA Nations League: Matchdays 3 & 4

UEFA Nations League keeps on going in full swing, bringing bright moments. Two more matchdays have come to an end just recently. And we are here to highlight their results.

Spain-Switzerland (1:0)

The third matchday started with Spain’s triumph over Switzerland with a 1:0 score. The winning goal was kicked by Mikel Oyarzabal in the 14th minute.

It became Spain’s second victory within the championship and confirmed their top position in Group A4. With their previous losses, the Swiss paid again for being sloppy with passes and blowing possessions.

Ukraine-Germany (1:2)

Capitalizing on the opponent’s errors, Matthias Ginter scored an early goal. Later, due to Georgi Bushchan’s howler in the second half, the Germans made a second goal, bringing them the first victory in the Nations League history. The Ukrainians, however, managed to get one back, and at that, they were played out. All in all, the match ended in Germany’s 2:1 win.

Russia-Turkey (1:1)

Anton Miranchuk and Kenan Karaman distinguished themselves in this battle. The Russian football player scored a goal after a well-placed shot in the 28th minute. The Turkish, though, leveled in the 63rd minute: once the Russians were hung into the penalty area, Kenan Karaman put the ball in the back of the net. Despite the draw score, Russia kept the leading position in the group.

Italy-Netherlands (1:1)

The fourth matchday stood out for another 1:1 drawn game — Italy vs. the Netherlands battle. The Netherlands got off to a flyer; however, the Italians managed to break through the opponent’s defense, and in the 17th minute, Lorenzo Pellegrini gave his team a 1:0 lead. The Dutchmen didn’t give up, and in the next ten minutes, Donny van de Beek pulled a goal back. As a result, Italians sank to the second position in the group.

England-Denmark (0:1)

The match was quite unsuccessful for the English: yellow cards, red cards. By the 31st minute, there were only 10 English players left on the field. Capitalizing on this situation, Christian Eriksen shot a winning goal by converting the penalty.

Croatia-France (1:2)

The Croatians stumbled at the threshold and gave away an early goal. Later, they proved able to get back into the game, hold the initiative, and even equalize the score in the 64th minute. Since then, the Croatians were attacking, stirring the pot and making the French defend themselves. Lastly, France turned out to be more effective, with Kylian Mbappe kicking a winning goal in the eleven remaining minutes.
